I can't believe that almost a year has gone by since I decided to throw my hat into this. Lots of things have happened. I am no longer afraid to state that I am making art, that my day job is a nurse but I still am driven to stay up late creating art. I have learned that sometimes art ideas bother me until I can create what I see in my mind's eye. That is how I created a piece of wood that I routed and then poured. My amazing neighbor (Pete Vordenberg http://vordenberg.com/) took all the pictures on this site -check out his photos -amazing and supplied the wood for this piece. Anyways...in a nut shell I successfully sold art at Park Silly Market in Park City and also during the Salt Lake Avenues Street Fair (2018). It was a great response, hands down best point was when an adolescent boy walked by my booth three or four times before stopping and working up the nerve to ask me questions. He was moved by the art and it made what I am doing worth it. Just to hear someone gasp and say- wow! Really amazing. He was too shy for me to snag a picture, but this guy was out walking in Park City and liked my work so much he facetimed his wife! Really! I continue to tweak what I am doing to my art and what I will create it on. I have started making jewelry and magnets. The drops of paint placed over wood, then I lacquer the pieces before turning them into magnets, pins, earrings or necklaces. The biggest coup was getting my own show at the Jewish Community Center in Salt Lake City. My art was shown for the month of March- it was such an amazing experience. They held a reception for me and I was in awe and humbled by so many fantastic friends and coworkers coming to see me. Amazing- i am a lucky girl! So what's next?... I probably won't post until next year... But..I am hoping to hear if I got into some shows again this year (Salt Lake Farmer's Market, Avenues Street Fair). I also am teaching how to create this type of art to parent's @ Ensign who donated to the Art Program...hopefully we all will be smiling and not wearing too much paint!

I have decided to take the plunge. Our home has been overrun by art, so I have started this little side business. Maybe it will take off, likely it will flounder but so far this has been a fun journey.
For those that don't know me, hello! I started creating acrylic dirt pour art while rehabbing my knee. I couldn't go skiing, climbing or chasing my kids so I started to play with paint. And what started as a fun afternoon with leftover acrylic paint has morphed into something more. |
